The Rev. Patrick Malloy Dear Patrick, Thanks for the great weekend! I really enjoyed my first-hand experience of Grace Church after all the conversations we’ve had over the past two years. Worshiping with the people of Grace Church was one of the most positive Sunday morning experiences I’ve had in years. These people are at home with worship. They obviously come to the day with a sense of joy and purpose. They like being together and it shows. The liturgy seems exactly right for the circumstances. Its catholicity and accessibility makes participation effortless. Your preaching is great. I love to sing and the enthusiasm the congregation brings to music-making and the strong leadership of the organist made me feel at home. I love the way you have the room arranged and it was delightful to celebrate Mary’s birthday right there in the nave. I know there are many people making all this happen. I hope you will congratulate them for me. Over the years I’ve been in this job, I’ve visited many congregations on Sunday morning. I wish I could say I’ve found many to match what I experienced yesterday, but I can’t. Your congregation is headed in just the right direction. Keep it up. I hope I have another opportunity to visit soon. And I shall look for
ways to let others know what you’re up to. You are creating a model
worthy of sharing. |
